Linking North and South. What slogan could be more apt. It describes the line's orientation, location and mission. The Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad was and is the quintessential bridge line. Located between the B&O and the Pennsy (now CSX and Conrail respectively) on the north and the Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line (now CSX) on the south the RF&P's primary mission was, and is today, to move passengers and freight between its connections. This book shows the RF&P in action in high quality color photo's. Concentrated on the diesel era as steam faded early, the book opens with a chapter "The Thunder Fades" showcasing a collection of steam powered trains.
